How to Take Amazing Flatlays

You may be wondering what a flatlay is, so here are a few other terms you may have heard used instead:

  • Flat lay (OK, that’s just a different spelling)
  • Collage
  • Bird’s-eye view
  • Top shot
  • God’s-eye view
  • Knolling (from the 80s, and the original flat lay)

If you’re styling your photo using a light background, natural light, and shooting it from above…then you already know what a flay lay photo is. You just didn’t have the vocabulary.

This workshop was recorded live as part of our 2020 pandemic training series leading up to Black Friday, so you may hear some references to that and our course, Take Excellent Photos with Your Phone. That said, the flatlay training is timeless.

Enjoy this free training for the next 72 hours as our gift to you! And if you like what you see, consider purchasing one of our courses or signing up for our email list, if you haven’t already.
